Successful and unsuccessful idents.

The ‘Opportunities of onscreen graphic representation’ means what the audience is seeing on the screen of their television vision. There are many opportunities of onscreen graphic representation, which are ‘Creates a corporate identity and tone for your channel’ this means what the channel is about and what is the ident trying to communicate to the audience. For example the ident may be all pink and have animals included in the ident this then suggests this certain ident is for young females.  Also ‘Easily displays text based information’ this means the ident displays/shows text which could be helpful to the audience as it may give information of the channel or the programme this is helpful to the audience as the audience may want to know what programme could be appearing next on the channel. And ‘Allows you to brand your channel’, this means the audience trust what’s on that certain channel. For example the viewer may enjoy watching programmes on ‘E4’ therefore that certain viewers then wants to see all programmes on that certain channel programmes they enjoy. Also ‘Encouragement of brand loyalty’ this means the ident encourages the channel to appeal more to the audience this is because the ident appears more appealing this then reflects on the channel. (The better the ident appears the better the channel appears to the audience). Also ‘Appeal to target audience’ means what age group the target audience appeals to. For example if an ident was serous and included a lot of text information then this will appeal to an older generation because it will not be suitable for younger children.

There is ‘Limitations of onscreen graphic representation’ this means analyzing the ident. The limitation of onscreen graphic representation includes, ‘Typography’ this means the ident needs to big and bold so it can catch the attention on the viewer’s attention more. Also ‘Resolution’ is what type of devices people are using. For example people watch programmes on their mobile phones. ‘Colour’ is then what devices are people watching the channel/ident on. Also ‘Aspect-ratio’ means what the viewer is watching the channel on. For example the viewer may watch the channel on a wide or small screen. This may affect the quality because the footage may be stretched to much which will then make the quality appear blurry and unclear to the audience.

The newest ident for ‘TV Gold’ from 2004 is a successful ident this is due to the fact is contains opportunities and limitations of onscreen graphic representation. Such as the newest ident contains a corporate identity and a tone for the channel this is because TV Gold displays their logo clearly and the channel’s ident clearly reflects of what the channel is about this is because TV Gold includes comedy programmes and this ident contains random and funny props. For example the audience see a laughing teeth walking around the ident, which suggest that TV Gold prensarates a range of comedy programmes. Also the limitations of this ident is the typography in this certain ident is appealing, big and use of bold righting and props which appeals to a range of audiences. Also this certain ident contains a range of bright colours, which attracts the audience attention. And the channel’s brand is comedy which is shown though the ident as the ident status, “Put something funny on” which then suggests that TV Gold is a funny channel and the ident is interacting with the audience as the ident is advising to put on TV Gold as it contains funny programmes.  Also the ident also appeals to many target but mostly to 16-50 years olds this is due to the fact.
Whereas the ‘TV Gold’ ident from 1992 in unsuccessful this is due to the fact it contains little opportunities and limitations of onscreen graphic representation. Such as the 1992 ident contains no text bases information this is unhelpful to the audience because the audience may want to know what the channel may be about and what type of programmes they may shows on the channel.

        The '4Musc:
Current Idents' ident is successful this is because it has a well-balanced composition this is due to the fact the ident is well thought though and it is clear to the audience of what the ident is stating and what type of programmes the channel may produce and show. Also this ident is enteraining for the audience may find watching other people dancing instresting and entertaining. The ident is realted to the channel because as soon as the music begins the male and female characters begin dancing this then suggests as soon as the 4Music begins people just want to dance. Also the facial expressions of the male and female dancers are happy and positive which then suggests that 4Music is a psotive and happy channel. Also in the ident the female character appears to be wearing clothing that is oftern worn for nights out, (such as clubbing), which then suggest that 4Music is a lively and youthful channel with youthful ad lively programmes. Therefore this ident is successful because the ident is appealing and entertaining for the audience.

        The '4Music:
2008 Miscellaneous Presentation' ident does not show what target audience this ident is targeted for this is due to the fact this ident only cotains black and pink colours and the logo. This confusing the audience as the audience will be unaware what age group the channel will be suitable for. The ident is not instresting this is because there is no use of bright colours which does not attract the audience's attention and makes the ident appear unappealing and plain. Also the music used in the ident is not appealing this is because it is not upbeat and positive in actural fact it to slow and quite. The ident also does not inform the audience with any information about the channel or what programmes are appearing next/soon this makes the channel appear unappealing so it does not inform their audience about the channel in any way. Therefore this ident is unsuccessful because it has little information provided and does not instrest the viewers in anyway.

The 'Channel4: Special Presentation (2) ' ident is successful this is because it presents the logo in a interesting manner this is because the logo of the channel appears in a centre of a counrty which suggests that Channel4 is the center of everything this includes in every counrty. Also the narrator provides information verbal this is helpful for the audience because the audiene may wish to know what programmes will be appearing next and what it may be about. The music used in this ident is calm  and reaxles the audience this is because the music is not loud and over-powering. Also the ident is well-balanced this is due to the fact the ident is well thought though and it is clear to the audience what the ident is stating and what type of programmes the channel may produce. Therefore this Channel4 ident is succussful this because it is clear and attracts the audience attention in a psotive manner.

The 'Channel4: 1999 Idents' ident is unsuccessful this is because it is not realted to the Channel4 programmes or the channel also the ident is not interesting therefore the audience lose interesting in the channel and the programmes they produce and show. The music played in the ident does not attract the audience to watch Channel4 programmes or the channels this is because the music used is loud and may make the audience feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Therefore this ident is unsuccessful because it is unappealing, it does not interest the audience, the colours used are dark and the music is not suitable for this certain channel.
